Liverpool took home several major prizes from this year’s UK Festival Awards, Getintothis’ Jake Marley reports.
Merseyside festivals Liverpool Music Week, Liverpool Sound City, Creamfields and Postive Vibrations all brought home major gongs from this year’s UK Festival Awards tonight.
Liverpool Music Week scored a major win bringing home the award for Best Metropolitan Festival. Seeing off tough competition from Dot 2 Dot Festival, Live at Leeds and our very own Liverpool Sound City among others. 2016’s edition featured memorable headline sets from Warpaint, John Carpenter, Let’s Eat Grandma and many more.
Elsewhere Liverpool Sound City won big once again, coming away with Best Festival For Emerging Talent – an award which recognises Sound City‘s commitment to showcasing new music and unearthing new talent.

Merseyside festival Creamfields added to the success winning Best Major Festival in a hugely competitive field that included seriously big hitters such as BST Hyde Park, Reading and Leeds and Isle of Wight and even the all important Glastonbury.
Completing a quartet of winners, Best New Festival went to new Liverpool event Positive Vibrations – Festival of Reggae. The event’s inaugural year was a resounding success, bringing an almost utopian feel to the Baltic Triangle. A matter of hours before the awards were given out, Positive Vibrations announced bona fide reggae legend Lloyd Coxsone as their first headliner for 2017, proving that the festival is again set for big things next year.
