Long Island’s long standing Hip Hop originators De La Soul return to Manchester in March 2017 to showcase And The Anonymous Nobody. Getintothis’ Matt Yarwood has the details.
Following the release of this year’s hotly anticipated And The Anonymous Nobody, De La Soul return to the UK for a run of gigs that includes a visit to Manchester’s Albert Hall, as well as shows in London, Nottingham and Bristol.
Since their ground breaking 1989 debut long player, 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul have established themselves as one of hip hop’s truly innovative and progressive forces. Often railing against hip hop nihilistic and self indulgent tenancies, the group have forged their own more positive path built around their trademark eclectic sample work and witty, intelligent lyricism.
Who you callin’ a bitch? Feminism and does it have a place in hip hop?
The intervening 3 decades have brought a further seven albums and constant critical praise. And The Anonymous Nobody, the group’s ninth release and their first since 2004’s criminally under appreciated The Grind Date, looks set to continue that success.
Long revered for their engaging live shows, this is a opportunity to see a hip hop collective of rare quality and longevity.
