Fox News are famed for being the worst in the world. And not just in terms of their production values, their profitability or any other specific. Fox News are just The Worst in The World.
Jon Stewart and his nowhere-near-as-good English successor have made a career and millions on the simple basis of pointing out how Fox News are The Worst in The World. So when, this week, Fox News declared Red Hot Chili Peppers as The Worst Band in the World, it made us at Getintothis Towers wonder if RHCP really are the worst band in the world.
For context, RHCP are a band who have been the only name big enough to headline Reading and Leeds this year (the other two nights are co-headlined); have sold 77,000,000 records worldwide, been played on Spotify around 1.4billion times (Spotify only launched in 2008 – so an average of 175 million streams per year); and announced on Friday a small tour of the UK taking in only the biggest arenas we have. And that is without the career zenith that was By The Way and Californication which seemed to conquer the world like a musical empire.
Yet do you know anybody who openly claims to be a fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers? Is their West Coast funk-rap-rock hybrid too jumbled for modern tastes? Or is it a question of fashion and that their time will come again?
