G.L.O.S.S, Ill and Queen Zee and the Sasstones are three bands sending Getintothis’ Vicky Pea back to the glory days of minute long ear assaults.
Punk’s not dead, it’s just busy keeping up, and we’ve got three bands to prove it.
Breathing life back into the minute long full on ear assaults of the New York hardcore punk era are Washington’s G.L.O.S.S (girlslivingoutsidesocietysshit) – a self-described trans-feminist band who take no prisoners. Their latest 4 track EP has caught the ear of many this year as its anger takes on a life of its own through the listener. The EP stands out as an expression of personal hatred kicking out at a world full of mindless hatred and is a perfect record for the fucked up year 2016 is turning out to be.
Closer to home Queen Zee and the Sasstones have been getting sassy across the North West dropping their first EP Hale Male. Fully embracing the DIY punk spirit their messy, loose recordings are somewhat reflected in their live shows as band mates trade instruments frivolously and inject energy into any situation. You can pick up the EP on a pay what you want basis, which we highly recommend you do as it grows with each listen. It’s a shot in the arm which has the ability to light a fire inside of anyone who relates to the themes and feelings on show, and as Sass or Die screams out ‘I wanna do this, for the rest of my life’ we think we’d quite like to join them.
Manchester’s ILL have been romping around for a few years and have a forthcoming EP We Are Ill in the works. Their speciality of in your face expression is even more unyielding in person as it is on record as those who’ve seen the band can attest to, something you should experience at the earliest opportunity as their often chaotic, sometimes sensational and always provocative shows have earned a reputation of their own.
