If any of you have been lucky enough to get down to the likes of FestEvol, Smithdown Road Festival or Sound City over the last few weeks, you will know just how musically affluent our city is right now.
From festival headliners The Coral to Glastonbury darlings She Drew The Gun, Liverpool is truly enjoying a “Golden Age” of musical wonderment, so much so that the city can boast to be one of only nine cities in the world to boast being called an UNESCO City of Music.
To put it bluntly; Liverpool, you are boss.
With such an abundance of talent at our disposal, here we take a look at three acts from our doorstep who are ready to make their mark on the musical landscape.
Atlas Eyes
Art rock indie five piece Atlas Eyes formed a couple of years back and this year the group have released their stunning self titled debut EP. Anthemic post punk flows from their pours as they unleash hook upon hook of blissful art anthems such as debut single Laura.
The group are are due to release their new single Mila, filled with powerful guitars and textured harmonies, its another example of why Atlas Eyes are being championed by the likes of BBC Radio 6. With their live shows gaining rave reviews, we would strongly suggest you get yourselves to West Kirby Live on Saturday June 4 to see what the fuss is about.
Cal Ruddy
Hailing from New Brighton, fresh faced acoustic troubadour Cal Ruddy wowed the swell that gathered to see him at Sound City recently and following a stint of spelling binding support slots, the singer songwriter is primed to take the step into the limelight having just released his debut single Maria.
Filled with emotive lyrics that brim with confidence, Ruddy is equally proficient on his instrument of choice and crafts irresistible endearing folk pop with an ease beyond his years. With the songsmith set to play West Kirby Live this Saturday, it’s the perfect opportunity to see this special talent.
Hicari
Having recently been announced as one of the finalists for this years LIMF Academy, five piece synth pop sensation Hicari are filled with uplifting electro goodness, befitting then that their name derives from the Japanese for light.
With a distinctive 80’s feel to their persona, the quintet blend together euphoric choruses with a net of synths, with a good dose of addictive drum hooks that drill into you instantly, as demonstrated on their debut single Consumed. With dates at LIMF on July 21-24 and International Mersey River Festival this Saturday June 4, their are plenty of chances to get into the Hicari vibes.
