Liverpool soprano Rachel Harland and Belgian pianist Hein Boterberg are giving a long-awaited performance this Saturday May 15 at the new Liverpool Hope Capstone Theatre (7.30pm).
With a mixture of English song, operetta and musical numbers, this recital is sure to provide an evening of elegant entertainment.

Rachel Harland, Soprano
Born in Liverpool, Rachel studied music at Manchester University and trained at Central School of Speech and Drama and Flanders Opera Studio, Belgium.
At the studio she sang Mélisande in Pelléas and Mélisande, Susanna in Marriage of Figaro and Despina in Cosi fan Tutte and took master classes with Graham Johnson, Ann Murray and Pietro Rizzo.
She has sung for many opera companies in the U.K. including Opera Holland Park, Carl Rosa Opera (US and Canada tour) and Opera Brava and is an experienced principal soprano of the Gilbert & Sullivan repertoire: Yum Yum in The Mikado – Charles Court Opera, Elsie in Yeomen of the Guard and Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance – Grim’s Dyke Opera, Peep Bo in The Mikado – Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company and Nicemis in the first professional production of Thespis since 1872 at Normansfield Theatre, London.
She has also toured a self – devised one – woman show based on the life of Savoyard Leonora Braham.
Rachel is an experienced solo recital singer, having given performances at The International Festival of Flanders, The International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, Merseyside Connection and at Flanders Opera Studio.
She has sung soprano solo in oratorios including Handel Messiah, Rutter Requiem, and Gounod St. Cecilia Mass and has sung extensively in residential homes around the U.K. with Music in Hospitals and on a private basis.
Rachel also leads music education workshops across England with Aldeburgh Music and Music in Prisons, particularly specialising in Young Offender Rehabilitation.
Recently she was a language and movement coach at Agalin Music Camp in Bangkok and Loei, Thailand.
Hein Boterberg, Pianist
Hein studied piano with Johan Duijck at the Conservatoire of Ghent, Belgium.
He specialized in accompaniment at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and at the London Guildhall School of Music.
Among his teachers were Graham Johnson, Martin Katz, Helmut Deutsch and Roger Vignoles.
He was also holder of the Geoffrey Parsons Junior fellowship at the Royal College of Music and has been official accompanist for singing master classes of Sir Thomas Allen, Robin Bowman, Emma Kirkby, Ann Murray, Loh Siew-Tuan, Graham Johnson and Dame Margaret Price.
Hein has always had a special affinity for the song repertoire. In recitals he has played in several prominent halls in Europe and Asia. In the London Wigmore Hall he gave his debut with singers Jonathan Lemalu and Sandra Martinovic, who he also accompanied for BBC Radio 3. In the Brussels Palais des Beaux Arts he accompanied soprano Sophie KarthÃâ¬user in an homage to José Van Dam. He founded and is artistic director of the song recital series “Vocal Journey” in which he has accompanied singers of international reputation from all over the world.
He was assistant to Antonio Pappano at La Monnaie, Royal Opera of Belgium, for two years and has also worked with conductors such as Kazushi Ono, Alessandro the Marchi and Renato Balsadonna.
Furthermore he has worked with singers for the Filharmonie, Flemish Radio Choir, Flemish Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opera Studio of Brussels and Collegium Vocale.
Since October 2004 he has been master in residence at the Flanders Opera Studio and has been invited to give vocal interpretation master classes in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
