Following on from the success of Todd Terje’s sell out show last year, Freeze bring the disco king back to Liverpool. Getintothis’ Ste Knight has the lowdown
Disco-don Todd Terje played an absolute blinder at Freeze last year, where he performed a diverse house/disco crossover set to a packed out Bombed Out Church.
Not content with just the one performance, though, Freeze have tempted the Norwegian producer back to our hallowed streets to perform, in full AND live, his critically acclaimed album, It’s Album Time. This time Terje is to play the Baltic Triangle ‘s Garage venue.
The album was the much-hyped work of a new-age disco deity. Terje blurred the lines between disco, house, lounge music and exotica with both ease and aplomb, with tracks such as Inspector Norse and Delorean Dynamite becoming instant favourites. The album was a great crossover for those who don’t always see eye-to-eye with fully fledged dance heads, as it was as technically accomplished as it was danceable.

It’s Album Time was a success because it new exactly what it was, and didn’t try to be anything else. Given the disco and lounge influences you could be forgiven for labelling the album as being somewhat kitsch. But it is, so the record would forgive you for thinking so. The tracks are as effortlessly laid-back as they are, in some respects, dark and lonely.
It is exciting to see that Terje will be heading our way to perform his record live, so stick March 25 in your diary because that’s when he’ll be arriving to blow minds – make sure yours is one of them.
