Merseyside favourites Rain will bring a welcome recent comeback to The Magnet next month, Getintothis’ Chris Burgess looks ahead to a much-anticipated homecoming from the Huyton foursome.
The newly reformed Rain – back after a hiatus of 20 years – are set to continue their comeback with a gig at The Magnet on 2 October.
The pre-Britpop alternative rock band are also working on new material, with a set of demos recorded and a new album soon to be recorded.
Rain, fronted by Ned Murphy, Colin Clarke and Martyn Campbell, were famously formed in 1988 at the Merseyside Trade Union Community and Unemployed Resource Centre in Huyton (when people could do that kind of thing without Ian Duncan Smith grabbing them by the ear and marching them into an unpaid retail job).
The band was signed to Colombia Records the following year, before scoring a hit with the melodic, Byrds-esque single Lemonstone Desired in 1991.
Their debut album A Taste of Rain was also released that year, and the band recorded a session for Mark Goodier’s BBC Radio 1 show. The band also released a posthumous album split with contemporaries The Real People in 1996.
Their upcoming Magnet gig is the latest in a string of comeback gigs for Rain, who have been earning some impressive reviews thus far. Liverpool is glad to have them back.
