The Kaskelot tall ship coming to a docklands festival near you
Liverpool Sound City have whipped up quite the mouthwatering delight with this year’s festival bill but what about the cherry on top? Getintothis’ Emma Walsh finds out what we can expect off stage at Bramley-Moore Dock.
With the festival’s big move to the docklands, Liverpool Sound City 2015 is set to be a definitive year for the organisers. They’ve already satisfied any reservations punters may have had about this year’s price hike with a stonkingly huge line up headlined by Belle and Sebastian, The Vaccines and the legendary The Flaming Lips, as well as exciting bands from Merseyside, the UK and beyond.
With the move away from former home sweet home Wolstenholme Square, the festival steps away from Liverpool’s established venues such as The Kazimier and much loved up pop ups such as Duke Street Garage, to a blank canvas all of their own. We know who to look forward to on stage, but what else can we expect on Bramley Moore docks come May 22?
The Kaskelot Tall Ship:
Perhaps inevitably, Sound City have announced a floating stage at this year’s event with the stunning Kaskelot mooring up for the weekend’s festivities. Bands will play on board the tall ship to a lucky hundred or so revellers, all of whom can win the chance to go aboard through various cunning giveaways over the three days.
Lantern Parade:
Liverpool favourites the Lantern Company make a special appearance at Bramley Moore Dock with a brand new set of illuminated puppets set to lead a surreal parade across the docklands following the Saturday night highlight from The Flaming Lips.
Spacecadets:
Yorkshire inflatable experts Spacecadets bring their structures and sculptures to the waterfront to add to the Saturday night visual spectacular. We’re holding out for a giant, glow in the dark rubber duck.
Brazilica Carnival:
The city’s favourite samba dancing superstars Brazilica bring their infectious Latin shapes to Friday night’s celebrations with a monumental stage overlooking the opening night of the party.
Comedy Tent:
With comedy on the Sound City bill for the first year, Sam Avery of the Comedy Trust has put together a line up featuring some of the best northern comedians including the ever popular The Gong Show. Sound Citizens will also have the chance to grace the comedy stage by registering on the day to perform with a prize on offer for the most well received funny guy or gal.
Tim Peaks Diner:
Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess brings his festival favourite Tim Peaks Diner to Merseyside with Northern Soul dance classes, poetry and book readings, and performances from Howling Horns Brass Section and Good Vibrations Funk Off.
Screenadelica:
Old faithful Screenadelica returns with an ever impressive exhibition of graphic screen printed gig posters from Horse. As well as showcasing some of his most iconic work, the exhibition will also feature brand new limited edition posters for a selection of the festival’s headliners.
On the Buses:
Not quite the visual spectacle or experience to compete with the wonderful Arts line up Sound City have put together this year, but no doubt the shuttle buses running between Bramley Moore Dock and Lime Street Station will be a welcome sight to Sound Citizens after a long hard day of festivaling. The buses will run every 30 minutes with helpful staff on hand for advice, directions and enthusiastic wooping.
