With a second album in the works and a UK tour in full flow, Getintothis’ Adam Lowerson looks ahead to Ren Harvieu’s performance at Leaf.
Salford singer songwriter Ren Harvieu is set for a performance at Bold Street’s Leaf Tea Shop on May 10, at an evening put on by Mellowtone. Currently working on her second album, the date comes as a part of a full UK tour, adding to an already busy 2015 which has seen her perform support slots for the Travelling Band earlier in the year.
Her rich, textured vocals saw her snapped up by Universal at the age of just 18, before releasing her début album Through the Night on Island Records, which reached number five in the UK albums chart. The timeless, theatrical sounds of tracks such as title track Through the Night and Open Up Your Arms saw Harvieu included on the BBC’s prestigious Sound Of shortlist in 2012 alongside artists such as Skrillex, Lianne La Havas, Frank Ocean and the eventual winner Michael Kiwanuka.
The 25 year old is often compared to the likes of Adele and Paloma Faith and has seen regular airplay and support from the likes of BBC Radio 2.
Ren Harvieu has endured difficult setbacks throughout her still fledgling career having broken her back in what she describes as a ‘freak accident’ during the recording of her début album in 2011. The road to recovery was a long one, and saw her spending several months at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital after a 14 hour long operation.
Harvieu’s background is based in musical theatre, and through several self recordings was discovered via Myspace.
Tickets for the event are available now.
