Big new sounds from GIT Award nominee Roxanne Jones, Getintothis’ Emma Walsh brings you an early contender for Summer Anthem 2015.
There are big things happening over at Camp Jones at the minute as we found out when we caught up with Roxanne at the tail end of last month.
The Toxteth singer songwriter isn’t prepared to do anything by halves, which fortunately for us, means more big tunes from that big voice. Striking out from her more familiar RnB tones, Jones lends her powerhouse vocals to a sure fire club anthem, Take Me Away.
Even in the depths of a dank March drizzle this track brings the glimmer of hope that sunshine is on its way with an old school mix that draws on an innate summer nostalgia from those opening chimes to the delicious melting pot melodies that swim throughout. You’re already dusting off the sunglasses and picturing the golden sands and blue skies of the Thompsons ad this song will inevitably soundtrack.
If her last track, I am a Woman, had us calling comparisons with feminist anthems from Destiny’s Child, there’s no denying the Beyonce influence on her latest offering with strong echoes of I am… Sasha Fierce track Halo.
Whatever Manc misery guts Noel Gallagher may make of that comparison in light of his recent, rather derogatory comments on female singers, we make it with all the credit that’s due a dynamite voice of that calibre.
