Fusing David Lynch darkness with oddball musicianship, Pennsylvania front man Daughn Gibson is readying his debut date with Liverpool, Getintothis’ Liam Fay looks forward to his slice of pie.
Electronica, rockabilly and country is the intriguing amalgam that is brought to the fore by Daughn Gibson.
Gibson, whose moniker is a delightful portmanteau that is part Don Gibson part Stevie Ray Vaughn, is set to play East Village Arts Club on Sunday November 24 as part of his European tour in support of his recently released sophomore album, Me Moan.
There’s something vaguely Lynchian about the man. Devastatingly chiselled, ruggedly handsome and annoyingly tall. He’s spent time behind the counter of a sex-shop and behind the wheel of a truck.
He’s described his performances as a “package of odd, scary and funny”. Swaggering darkness, snarling rhythms and molasses like vocals. There’s even some room for bagpipes.
I doubt anyone could want for anything more.
Here’s a little taste of Gibson’s brand of apple pie, Kissin’ On The Blacktop. Oh, it tastes good, don’t it?
