GIT Award nominee Nadine Carina releases her new single just before the imminent EP unveiling, Getintothis’ Laurie Cheeseman takes look at how Carina is slowly becoming a force to be reckoned with.
One sound that defines Swiss-by-way-of-Liverpool artist Nadine Carina’s songs is that start-of-autumn feeling, especially on new single The Love, off her new EP Things That People Love to Remember.
Her timing couldn’t be more perfect – it is a beautiful thing when artists drop new music at just the right time of year. It’s not easy to aurally capture that glorious quality the light takes on in the early evenings just as the sun is going down and the orange leaves litter the ground, but with a beautifully melancholic twinge as it is dark before tea-time; it is echoing, echoing back to some lost golden period.
The hazed-out, laboured beats and haunting, pensive piano are full of loss, looking back and what ifs; it’s soothing, wistful, absorbing… take your pick as one word can’t do it justice.
The rest of the EP, released Monday November 18, follows in much the same pattern, but songs like My Heart (Jungle) bring a different atmosphere to the fore.
The drawn out closing is dominated by the sound of rushing water and calling birds, complementing its introductory coda, like the lonely transmission of a lost vessel. It’s all very beautiful.
Things That People Love To Remember is an accomplished piece of work, one that should cement the visage and ambition of Carina in the hearts and minds of those that seek out the new and vital.
This rush of new music chimes wonderfully with Everisland‘s Halloween bonanza said that is to take place at the Kazimier on Thursday October 31.
The GIT Award 2013 nominee lines up alongside Bird, Zombina & The Skeletones, Lovecraft and many more besides for what promises to be a good old fashioned horrorshow.
