Cut Copy return after a three year gap with atmospheric single, Getintothis’ Graham Fandango reports.
Antipodean synth veterans Cut Copy have returned after three years with their new single and accompanying video Love is All We Share.
The single is their first offering since 2017’s album, Haiku From Zero.
The six-minute track creates a dreamlike atmosphere, a departure from the band’s usual sound.
Vocalist Dan Whitfield describes the new release as “a song we made using only a handful of sounds, hoping to create an intimate and unworldly atmosphere“.
In addition, Whitfield explains the further significance of the sound, and lyrics the song: “It was written a year ago about the anxieties of imagined future times, as technology becomes more all-consuming.”
“But in light of recent events the song took on an eerie significance. Now, with our immediate future uncertain and people the world over self isolating, “love” more than ever, feels like one of the best things we can share.”
In the video the warm analog synths and staccato beats on offer are given visual representation by American artist Takeshi Murata, who describes the clip as “representing elements of the song … with animation that’s meditative. For me, the bubbles point to our relationships and their fragility, relevant to the lyrics and time.”

Following their formation in 2001 as a bedroom recording project, Melbourne band Cut Copy have become one of Australia’s most successful exports with five studio albums in their discography, drawing comparisons ranging from Talking Heads to Tame Impala.
