Isolation rumbles on and music seems more important than ever, especially new music and Getintothis’ Simon Kirk highlights this week’s top new releases.

Suffice to say, if you’re like me, this week has probably been the toughest out of the current situation.
Some human contact would be nice. Even if it’s just to say hello to one of your friends and have a quick gas over a beer.
Alas, these pastimes seem a while away with this situation not abating any time soon it seems.
Lucky new music is one distraction and this week there’s plenty of goodness, spearheaded by the welcomed return of one Fiona Apple.
Quickly backtracking to last week and highlight releases include Hamilton Leithauser, Sunwatchers, Once and Future Band and Savage Mansion. These releases have been especially difficult to dislodge from the platter, so do check them out.
This week though, well, it speaks for itself, really. As they say, you can have it all. Stay safe, people.

1. Fiona Apple: Fetch the Bolt Cutters

Queen of the longest album titles ever, Fiona Apple returns with her follow up to 2012’s brilliant The Idler Wheel… with Fetch the Bolt Cutters.
This is a digital release only at this stage so hit up the streaming services. When there’s new Fiona Apple music the day can only be a good one.

2. EOB: Earth

After years and years of waiting an Ed O’Brien solo album is finally here!
O’Brien, under the moniker of EOB, releases his debut album, Earth. Let’s hope it’s been worth the wait, however those who have seen Radiohead will know how beautiful this man’s voice is.
Produced by Flood, Earth features collaborations with Omar Hakim, Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood, David Okumu, Laura Marling, Portishead‘s Adrian Utley, Nathan East and Glenn Kotche of Wilco.

Dirty Hit
Pop alert! Japanese pop auteur, Rina Sawayama, drops her debut today, entitled Sawayama.
Identity, family, gender and sexuality are just some of the themes that comprise Sawayama. Big talk about this album, let’s see if it’s worth the hype.

4. Shabazz Palaces: The Don of Diamond Dreams

Shabazz Palaces return with their fifth album, The Don of Diamond Dreams.
The spirit of jazz, hip-hop and rap remains with the collective continuing to take us through a journey of the genres. 10 tracks, 43 minutes. Got a feeling there’s something a bit special in the water here.

5. Lido Pimienta: Miss Colombia

Toronto-based, Colombian-born Lido Pimienta returns with her new album, Miss Columbia.
Following up from her 2016 Polaris Prize-winning album, La Papessa, here Pimienta explores the politics of gender, race, motherhood and identity. Think this one could reach new ears, folks, so get involved.

6. Jarboe: Illusory

Avant-garde touchstone, Jarboe returns with her 33rd (yes, you read correctly) album, Illusory.
This is said to be one of her most engaging records yet and with her newly re-scheduled Liverpool show down for December, the levels of excitement here, are, well, real.

7. Sir Richard Bishop: Oneiric Formulary

Guitar experimentalist, Sir Richard Bishop returns with his first record in fives years in Oneiric Formulary.
Following up from the acclaimed Tangier Sessions, Oneiric Formulary is said to be a looser listen with Bishop creating a dream state vibe here. Sounds like a good nighttime record…
