Fenne Lily releases a new single on Dead Oceans, with a tour on its way. Getintothis’ Will Neville thinks she’s blooming marvellous.
Dead Oceans from Indiana, home to the likes of Bright Eyes, Bill Fay and Destroyer, have revealed that their latest signing is Fenne Lily.
The 23-year old Bristol-based singer, originally from Dorset, has celebrated this by releasing her debut single for the label, Hypochondriac, which benefits from a greater maturity of songwriting, arrangement and production than some of her earlier songs.
Her Beth Orton-esque soft vocals still pack plenty of punch, with Lily stating:
“It’s the first in a collection of tracks addressing myself as both the cause of and solution to my anxieties, as well as a shift in attention from predominantly relationship-based writing to a more self-reflective dialogue.”
This new track is a follow-up to her self-released debut album On Hold, released in April 2018, when she was described as a cross between Dido and Sharon Van Etten, with the album featuring in the Top 5 of Getintothis’ Top 100 albums of the year.
She started out playing support for the likes of KT Tunstall and Marika Hackman, with whom she has common musical ground, and has also collaborated with Aldous Harding, singing on a track off her 2017 Party LP.
She is heading out on tour once more in support, this time with acclaimed Virginian Lucy Dacus, as well as performing at festivals this summer. However as with all live events it is extremely likely that some or all will be affected by Coronavirus control measures.
Her full UK and Irish tour dates as currently publicised are:

May 1: Union Chapel, London
May 4: Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow
May 5: Limelight, Belfast
May 6: Button Factory, Dublin
