2020 is here and while the tumbleweed may be prelevant post-Christmas there are still a few gigs to shout about and Getintothis’ Simon Kirk has the details.
Happy 2020, folks.
It could be a good year for Liverpool as a city. But then again, it could all go tits up. You know this.
It feels like the looming chaos of Brexit will continue to have everyone on a downer.
The only thing that could momentarily alleviate the political situation is Liverpool F.C. winning the league and, even still, that’s only for the red half of the city. Many a Blue will probably be booking their summer holidays to avoid any fanfare from the Redmen.
Anyway, enough of the doom and gloom.
January is bad enough and as you’ll see below, there’s not too much happening this week. Field Music at Phase One seems the place to be, while Judy Collins will be making a surprise appearance at the Grand Central.
So yes, this week is about less being more. If you had a New Year’s resolution to go to more gigs then this is the place to start. As they say, no time like the present.

Field Music: Phase One, Thursday January 9
What a way to kick off the New Year at Phase One. Yes, you read correctly. Sunderland’s Field Music return to the city on the back of their brand new album, Making A New World.
This one’s an in-store show with an album signing to conclude the band’s set. A good way to shake the post-Christmas blues.

Judy Collins: Grand Central Hall, Saturday January 11
American folk veteran, Judy Collins, plays the Grand Central on your Saturday night.
Known for her diverse range of sounds which has seen her cover Joni Mitchell to collaborating with Leonard Cohen, Collins‘ arrival in Liverpool is quite the coup for the Grand Central.

Glenn Miller Orchestra: Philharmonic Hall, Saturday January 11
The UK’s best known swing collective are back, this time with Glenn Miller’s own arrangements of wartime chart toppers and hits from the forties, directed by band leader Ray McVay.
Special guests include The Swing Time Jivers and guest vocalists Mark Porter and Catherine Sykes.

Dense & Pika: 24 Kitchen Street, Saturday January 11
British electronic DJ duo Dense & Pika, (Alex Jones – Hypercolour label boss and Chris Spero better known to many as Glimpse) will play a 3 hour set at 24 Kitchen Street.
With a number of white label releases to boot, the pair’s arrival on Merseyside kicks off the year for 24 Kitchen Street in fine style.

Music Village Benefit: Phase One, Saturday January 11
Phase One is hosting Music Village‘s benefit gig In support of musicians and DJs affected by the robbery at the Liverpool Music Village.
The line-up includes Liverpool’s Beatnik Hurricane collective, Edgar Jones, The Entire City as well as DJ’s Olly J and Elliot Wilkinson.

Deep Cuts third birthday: Phase One, Friday January 17
Yeah, we’re getting ahead here, but only because we want you to put this in your diary.
Yes, our Deep Cuts event turns three on Friday week and to celebrate the night will feature The Florrie Guitar Orchestra, STONE (formerly known as The Bohos), Aimee Steven, Birmingham’s Matters and The Roswell Project.
