The Racket
The Racket are back with a brand new track just in time for the General Election, Getintothis’ Amos Wynn has the news on For the Many Not The Few.
Widnes four-piece, The Racket, are not afraid of releasing tracks which provide honest viewpoints of the world around them.
Their latest song, For The Many Not The Few, continues that trend, with their most politically motivated lyrics to date.
“For The Many Not The Few is obviously a political statement,” says the bands guitarist Mike White. “As long as the statement is relevant, the song will be too. We recorded five songs for our new EP and this one was perfect for now.”
Lead singer, Callum Codd also agrees that now is the perfect time to release their new song, but admits the lyrics are not all about the Labour leader.
“We’ve done it now because the election is coming up. It’s not a Jeremy Corbyn song, it’s about the policies. We’re Socialists because that’s where we’re from and that’s what we believe in. We’ve done this song ourselves and no one else has been involved.”

Codd was motivated to write the song after a significant event during Theresa May’s reign as Prime Minister.
“I wrote the song last years when we were on tour. We were on our way from Bristol to London, and I woke up to see the news that the British government had dropped bombs on Syria, so that’s what it is about.”
He continues: “I was upset that day. There is a lyric in there saying ‘how many people die, an endless list you multiplied by five,’ because people were dying that didn’t need to.”
The song comes in the final days of campaigning before what is widely regarded as the biggest General Election in a generation.
Multiple musicians have backed Jeremy Corbyn and Labour, including The Libertines‘ Peter Doherty just last night and Elbow‘s Guy Garvey today.
