The Seamonsters, Ana Mae, Hilmari: Studio 2, Liverpool

The Seamonsters popped along to a date at Studio 2, Getintothis’ Warren Millar popped along with them to see the action.

Sheffield based 5 piece indie pop band The Seamonsters having just finished the Festival season with sets at Skeleton Coast, Tramlines and Confessional festivals don’t stop for a second and are now gigging with their “How to be famous” tour.

Studio 2 Parr Street was the second stop off point on the tour and leads to dates at Sheffield (a home town gig), York, Manchester and Middlesbrough.

With support coming from Hilmari and Ana Mae and on a rather sunny September autumn night in Liverpool, things were looking good.

The night was kicked off in quite a chilled way with Ana Mae, just Ana her guitar and some nice thoughtful songs.

Including a rather good cover of Killing Moon towards the end of her set. There is something good about seeing a solo artist on stage with just a guitar and voice and Ana gave a great performance.

Hilmari were up next in what seemed like record time for a change over. It looked like they had brought quite a few fans along for the night as folk began to sing along to their fun poppy tunes and who seemed to know all the words.

Their sound was spot on and warmed the punters up nicely.

The guys at Studio 2 do know how the change over stage sets as again the crowd were not kept waiting too long before The Seamonsters came on stage with a cheery “Hello Liverpool how ya all doing tonight? We are The Seamonsters from Sheffield” from lead singer Naomi Mann.

Last time this writer saw the band was at Phase One a year or so ago and one thing we can say is that they get better, of that we have no doubt.

These five girls from Sheffield seem to genuinely love what they do and this shines though in their live performance from everyone of the band.

Naomi’s voice is a joy and her command of the stage comes across like she has been lead singer in a band for many years.

The set list included their newest single “Blue Movie Baby” and also the first song they wrote as 14 year olds “Wonderland”

The set was finished off in style with “Lost(And Found)” culminating in all five members falling to the stage floor at the end.

We need to see more of The Seamonsters and we’re sure the crowd at Studio 2 tonight feel the same way.
