Liverpool’s Beerdfest is coming to Camp and Furnace. What better time to celebrate music’s hairer than thou.
Beards and music go together like peaches and cream.
And next month, there’s going to be a whole lot of serious music and even more serious facial fuzz going down on Tuesday December 4 at Liverpool’s inaugural Beerdfest at Camp & Furnace.
You can enter your beard, moustache and fake furry fuzz (for the ladies) by emailing: [email protected] – the winner receives a Camp & Furnace hamper while the 12 best finalists will have their portrait framed and become part of the Beerdfest Calendar 2013.
To mark the occasion, Getintothis caught up with resident bearded wonder and Samizdat promoter, Andrew Ellis, to offer his top 10 beards in music.
Move over Movember, hairy we go…
1. Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top)
Lifetime achievement award.
2. Shavo Odadjian (System of a Down) & Kerry King (Slayer)
A tie for the viking braided metal beard award.
3. Scott Ian (Anthrax)
In the studio Scott Ian’s beard doubles as a microphone windshield so he wins the most useful beard award.
4. Devendra Banhart
The Guy Fawkes throw-back heart-throb award.
5. Rick Ross
The award for the only genuinely stylish beard on this list.
6. Peaches
The award for best imitation beard that looks better than any beard you will ever grow.
7. R. Stevie Moore
The award for dedication to Christmas.
8. Will Oldham (Bonny Prince Billy)
The Williamsbeard award.
9. Vinnie Paul (Pantera)
The “I’m in a huge rock band and rich so I can have a really stupid beard” award.
10. George Michael
The Dedication Award. For managing to maintain the same length of designer stubble for over ten years despite being completely stoned the whole time.
Honourable Mentions:
Wayne Static
Closely missed out on the Vinnie Paul award but unfortunately is not in a huge rock band or rich.
Rick Rubin
Despite not being in a band, Rick Rubin is deserving of some credit for inspiring those whose albums he’s produced to grow beards.
