Doves – they’re back for 2019 live dates
The Bingley Festival may be no more, but the Bingley Weekender has taken its place and is bringing all the noise you could want to Bradford & Bingley Rugby Club, Getintothis Conor Baxter has the news.
Bingley Weekender has stepped in to keep some of the best rock and indie music coming to the local area after Bingley Festival was cancelled earlier in the year.
The lineup is an absolute dream if you are a fan of rock and indie music, especially at such a good price. You could argue it’s one of this summers bargain weekends at just £94 for a weekend ticket.
It seems that some of the best new acts in the UK will be playing throughout the weekend, with headliners that are worthy of the top spot at almost any UK festival.
Ocean Colour Scene, James, Echo & The Bunnymen, and Doves take top spots, closely followed by Circa Waves, Miles Kane, and Billy Bragg.
There is something of a “Scouse Sunday” on the cards with The Night Cafe, Miles Kane, and Echo & The Bunnymen all performing on Sunday.
It’s a shame Circa Waves weren’t playing on the same day, it would have made for a full house of Liverpool acts, it’s also worth noting that day tickets have just been released which could come in handy.
With so much to see crammed into such a short time, take a look over our six acts that you must watch while you are there, and we will see you there for a weekend packed full of classic indie anthems, and emerging hits that will be in our playlists for years to come.
Marsicans
From just around the corner, Leeds locals Marsicans head to Bingley to bring the local crowd exactly what they came for. Expect a mosh pit, a tonne of energy from the band on and off stage, and a Whisper Gold or two thrown in for good measure. Their sound is sublime and they know how to put on a show. Listen out for their new single Little Things, and see why Marsicans are expected to do quite the opposite this year.
Anteros
One of the best emerging indie acts of the last few years, Anteros are guaranteed to bring back fond memories of certain 80’s female-led bands. With a sound as distinctive as it is recognisable, the soft, dreamy vocals of frontwoman Laura can often pack a punch when the chorus arises. A definite act to watch on Saturday.
Sports Team
Leading the charge in the new sound of guitar music. Sports Team perfectly articulate the point that creative lyricism and strong guitar riffs can go hand in hand. M5, a seemingly simple song about driving on a very mundane motorway, is a thing of glory. From the Jelly Bean air freshener to untied shoelaces, the details included in the lyrics, matched with extremely tight beats and guitars give Sports Team an edge over many other bands on the scene at the moment. Live they are something special to watch. Don’t miss an opportunity to see one of the great up and coming acts, and to hear a song about Ashton Kutcher and suburban monks.

The Night Cafe
Quite possibly the hottest band in Liverpool at the minute with a debut album due and a headline tour that is fast selling out, The Night Cafe are making 2019 their year. Local lads through and through, their album was recorded in the Baltic Triangle (fun fact, their album artwork will feature the roof of Camp And Furnace) and they’ve got a date at the Olympia later in the year to bring their tour to a close. Watching The Night Cafe at a festival is always a pleasure, especially being surrounded by people who haven’t yet seen them live. Listening to the classic “whisper/shouting” in their mates ear “these aren’t bad these”, to two minutes later them themselves being right in amongst it at the front. The Night Cafe draw people in like that, their set in Bingley will be no different.
Ten Tonnes
Ethan Barnett, better known as Ten Tonnes, has a distinctive sound that is amplified by the band that plays with him. Better Than Me, is an instant indie classic, songs like Counting Down and Look What You Started make for a readymade back catalogue from a man that has only just released his debut album. Expect a set to remember on Sunday as Ten Tonnes joins an especially strong closing day lineup.
Idles
Somewhat leading the punk revival, Idles are something to behold. Their lyrics hit home and their performances are always as memorable as they are powerful. Hot off a Glastonbury debut, Idles know how to engage their audience and have built a tribe of loyal fans who appear willing to follow them far from their home of Bristol. Expect an unpredictable but utterly thrilling set from the band over the weekend.
