Vintage Trouble: Hangar 34, Tuesday August 14

Californian rhythm and blues is the order of the night on Tuesday in Hangar 34. Retro four piece Vintage Trouble swoop by as part of a short, exclusive UK tour.

Magnetic frontman Ty Taylor might be familiar to some. Not only has his music featured in the TV series Vinyl, he formerly performed with R&B group Dakota Moon, and Dave Navarro’s short-lived post-Jane’s Addiction project Camp Freddy.

OMNI: Shipping Forecast, Thursday August 16

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, post-punk trio OMNI bring the south on home to Liverpool in midweek. With local punks Ohmns and Uncle Jane support, it’s sure to be a chaotic evening.

Having received national radio play and toured with the incomparable Ezra Furman, it might be time for OMNI to take the next step up

Holly Rees, Matt Dunbar: 81 Renshaw, Thursday August 16

Newcastle’s Holly Rees is set to release her new EP Slow Down soon. Having already dropped the energetic Timid Heart, the singer-songwriter brings along Northumbrian Matt Dunbar for a co-headline tour.

As ever, those on the lookout for the best in folk performers need look no further than 81 Renshaw this week.

Candy Opera: Studio 2, Saturday August 18

One of the great lost Liverpool bands, Candy Opera released symphonic pop in the 1980s, at a time when most of Merseyside was moping in post punk.

Now revived, and having released their album 45 Revolutions Per Minute earlier this year, they hit Studio 2 this weekend. Edgar Jones plus Mel Bowen support the first live Candy Opera performance in over 25 years.

Thomas Truax: 81 Renshaw, Saturday August 18

New York City outsider music creator Thomas Truax visits 81 Renshaw this week. Think steampunk anti-folk played on handmade, one-of-a-kind musical instruments and you’ll still be getting nowhere near.

This is shaping up to be one of those shows that has to be seen to be believed. Take in Thomas Truax at 81 Renshaw on Satdee.

Silent K: Zanzibar, Saturday August 18

Dave McCabe’s madcap new project play where else but the Zanzibar this week. He and Silent K frontman Chris Taylor are taking their new band in esoteric new directions.

DSM IV support this time, and Silent K will in turn support Warmduscher and also The Stairs when they hit Liverpool later this year.

Shout About It Live: Constellations, Saturday August 18 – Sunday August 19

A hybrid Liverpool festival promising to bring live music together with gig photography. In the not-long-for-this-world Constellations, the lineup sounds like a dream for fans of either strand of Shout About It’s remit.

REWS, Himalayas, Tom Speight, Idle Frets, Vistas, Nick Ellis, M.A.N.E, Eleanor Nelly, Emmanuel Nwamadi, Pizzagirl, Memory Girl and more all feature. With Liverpool’s vibrant gig photography scene, surely this can’t miss.

There’s rich pickings in Getintothis‘ Gigbites this week, with plenty of little nuggets to sink your teeth into. Mmm. Nuggets.

Wooden Shjips: Invisible Wind Factory, Friday September 14

Bay Area freaks Wooden Shjips dock at the Invisible Wind Factory in just a few weeks time. There’s still tickets left for this psychedelic night out in the docklands, so act fast with your usual retailer.

The gig comes following hot on the heels of a taster over at District earlier in the year. Shjips guitarist Ripley Johnson‘s mind-bending Moon Duo side project gigged in Liverpool to wide acclaim. Now he’s back, bringing his minimalist, spacey drone rock compadres with him. Support on the night comes from The Lucid Dream – who received 6music backing recently – and Mildlife.
