As Wolves in the Throne Room announce a metal extravaganza coming to the Invisible Wind Factory, Getintothis’ Ned Hassan looks forward to an evening of dark arts.
Black metal is at its most captivating when it operates at the boundaries – when it articulates tensions between a blizzard of dissonant distorted guitar and moments of melody and atmospherics, often created by borrowing from other genres.
It is an art form that invites experimentation and Wolves in the Throne Room have increasingly embraced opportunities to innovate.
Hailing from Olympia, Washington USA and spearheaded by dual vocalist/guitarists Rick Dahlin and Nathan Weaver, together with drummer Aaron Weaver (Nathan’s brother), the band have continued to evolve their bold, dark sound since their first full length album in 2006.

Last year’s critically acclaimed Thrice Woven saw them use a broad sonic palette in order to evoke rich mystical soundscapes that were, at times, bleak but also transcendent. On the second leg of their European tour in support of this album, the band descends upon Liverpool’s Invisible Wind Factory to play one of only two dates in the North of England.
Featuring additional guitarists Kody Kayworth (who recently became a fully-fledged member of the band) and Peregrine Somerville, as well as Brittany McConnell on keyboards and percussion, the atmosphere this live act creates is not to be missed.
