Mothering Sunday is upon us, and I hope to all things good that doesn’t come as news to you.
Tell yer ma that there’s a stellar lineup of gigs to be sampled and savored this week, unless she’s in some sort of Prosecco induced stupor.
Even then, that’s probably the exact time to tell her about some of these gigs that you’re going to, so she can do that glazed smile and nod as if she has a single clue who the fuck you’re talking about.
That’s unless yo mama is one of those ‘cool moms’ that you always see shared on Facebook… in which case, our thoughts are with you, because we couldn’t think of anything worse.
In case on the off chance that you’re reading this midweek and these Mothers’ Day references are already out of date… how about all of that snow/rain/unseasonably mild weather (delete as appropriate) we’ve been having, huh?

Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry: Arts Club, Tuesday March 13
Positive vibes only at the Arts Club this week as living legend and reggae originator Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry takes to the stage.
Watch an 80-odd year old man skank like the best of them while his band chock out intense riddims, all while his otherworldly toasts-slash-rants on themes such as aliens, judgement, justice and corruption, sex and self proclamation all carry you to other realms. From Genesis to Revelation, here he comes to dub the nation!
Karl Blau
Karl Blau: Leaf On Bold Street, Wednesday March 14
Booking his return trip to Merseyside shores is Anacortes, Washington’s Karl Blau, a space cowboy specialising in indie rock and folk.
The former Microphones man – a group he formed with Mount Eerie‘s Phil Elverum – is set to duplicate his success this week with last year’s well-received Leaf gig.
Phobophobes
Phobophobes: Shipping Forecast, Thursday March 15
A cracking lineup awaits those who descend the stairs to the Shipping Forecast hold this week, with London six piece Phobophobes on headline duties.
The psych-heads are joined by Liverpool proto punks Psycho Comedy, who are exciting us with their development, and Pale Rider, who are tipped for great things.
Milk Teeth
Milk Teeth: Buyers Club, Thursday March 15
One of the rising bands of the British punk scene, Gloucestershire four piece Milk Teeth are set to hit Buyers Club this week.
Off the back of their debut Vile Child on indie label Hopeless Records, they were snapped up by American behemoth and purveyors of all things heavy Roadrunner Records. Next stop for Milk Teeth could be arenas or large theatres at the very least, so catch ’em while you can.

Describing themselves as a “post-punk feminist pastiche full of terrifying visions of homicide, bunny boiling witchcraft and sweaty sex shop humour” says it all about London four piece Madonnatron, who released their debut self titled album last year.
Labelmates with the likes of Fat White Family, Madonnatron‘s is a DIY District show to savour.

Protomartyr: O2 Academy, Thursday August 30
Recently announced by Evol for a date just after the August bank holiday, noisy Detroit garage /psych mob Protomartyr are now nailed on for an exciting O2 Academy showing.
They released their fourth album Relatives In Descent back in Autumn 2017, the follow up to 2015’s rapturously received The Agent Intellect. Now signed to Domino Records, they’re an incendiary punk act with something to prove and an edge to their sound. Make sure you get down there to check out one of the more unique bands around right now.
