Here’s another week of live guests to keep you entertained in these times of no fun, no surrender and no gigs, Getintothis’ Matty Loughlin-Day brings the schedule.
Getintothis Live, our ongoing three-times weekly chat show continues to provide certainty in a time of deep unpredictability – which is much needed as, in case you hadn’t noticed, the world has gone fucking mental.
The live stream, which feature discussion, debate and occasional live music or spoken word is now well established as a go-to point for those looking to satisfy their cultural needs at a time when going to gigs, spoken word events or any other event that involves standing near other humans.
Steering the ship as ever are Getintothis’ captains, Roy Bayfield and Simon Kirk who will be discussing the latest news and features at 8pm tonight (Saturday), Monday and Wednesday, accompanied by Getintothis’ Peter Guy.
Tonight’s session features the wonderful Niki Kand, a Liverpool based Iranian musician who is well and truly a part of the local live fabric. Long championed by Getintothis and a key part of the Independent Women in Music cause, Niki is joined by Grace Gallagher and Rachael Smart from Ugly Bucket Theatre Company, a physical comedy outfit who have made a massive impact with shows at Sound City, the Unity, Edinburgh Festival to name but a few.
That in itself would be quite the coup, but also making up the rabble are Kate Pybis, owner of Liverpool’s, well, soundest bar, Sound and XamVolo, musician, vocalist and producer who’s debut album All the Sweetness on the Surface came out on Decca last year. XamVolo studied in Liverpool and whilst there became an ever present on the circuit before moving on to bigger things such as touring with no less than Paloma Faith.
Things go live at 8pm, so set a reminder, make a note and see you there.
Come Monday, Getintothis Live shows no sign of slowing down, as the team welcomes into the fray producer, musician and author Richard Norris, also known for his work moonlighting as The Grid, Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve plus The Time and Space Machine in addition to Cathy Butterworth an artist, writer, performer and manager of The Arts Centre at Edge Hill University, (amongst other things, the venue for Deep Cuts Awaydays don’t you know…) and organiser and instigator of many projects including working for the Bluecoat and DaDaFest.
Also in attendance will be Frankii Pheonix, who knows Liverpool’s cultural scene as well as anyone, having worked with Threshold, the Kazimier, Mello Mello as well as setting up her own promotions nights and Clare Cheung, a staple of the gig-going crowd on Merseyside.
Looking further ahead to Wednesday 10th and the forecast is just as stunning, with Jonny Quinn, frontman of the all conquering Liverpool-based band SPINN, Sarah Sands, saxophonist in one of the city’s finest jazz-pop-improv bands Green Tangerines and Jay McAllister (aka Beans on Toast) teaming up with George Maund, promoter of Cartier 4 Everyone club nights, guitarist, producer for Roger Hill’s Pop show and one time member of a multitude of bands including Mother Earth and a.P.A.t.T to discuss all things happening.
Locked down, but not beaten down; see you there.
