Lianne La Havas has shared news of her upcoming self titled album and its lead track Paper Thin, Getintothis’ Graham Fandango has the news.
South London indie-folk and soul artist Lianne La Havas has announced her third album will be released on July 17, her first long player to appear in five years.
Lead track Paper Thin is out now on all streaming platforms.
Reviewing the track for Getintothis Singles Club, James Baker wrote: “Its intimate simplicity exposes Lianne’s incredible voice at its most delicate and helps set the tone for the album that follows.”
The artist is keen to maintain the momentum built by a series of high profile appearances, including a set at Glastonbury 2019 and a live show at the Barbican with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Jules Buckley.
A touchstone for the album was a new arrangement of Radiohead‘s Weird Fishes, recorded by La Havas and her core band immediately after returning from Glastonbury.
The process of creating the album is described as having been “quite a journey” as La Havas has “spent a lot of time moving back and forth between the UK and the States working on writing and exploring her own identity.“
Speaking about the songs recorded for the album, La Havas says: “The best part is that I own them, and really believe in them,” she says. “And, you know, it’s me. So I can’t be afraid of doing what I do, and being who I am.”
“What plays a big role in the album is the idea of the life cycle of plants and nature—equating this journey with a seasonal thing that blooms, thrives, goes away, and comes back even stronger,” La Havas says.
Lianne La Havas self titled album is available on July 17 on Warner Records.
