Liam Gallagher’s MTV Unplugged release date has been moved back to June 12 and will be celebrated with a special listening party, Getintothis Sian Ellis has the details.
Liam Gallagher has announced that his MTV Unplugged live album will be released June 12.
The announcement comes after Liam tweeted back in March that the album wouldn’t be ready for the initial release date of 24 April.
Gallagher is soon to join a list of legendary artists such as Paul McCartney, Nirvana, Page and Plant who have all released a prestigious MTV Unplugged session.
The album includes the recording of a one-off show in Hull City Hall, where Liam found himself fulfilling some unfinished business after missing Oasis’ 1996 MTV Unplugged session through illness.
This is the second helping of good news for Liam Gallagher fans, after he recently announced that an Oasis reunion charity gig for the NHS will go ahead at London’s O2 on October 29.
Liam commented: “I was honoured to perform at the legendary showcase that is ‘MTV Unplugged’. It was a lovely experience and the people of Hull were biblical and sounded fantastic. I hope you enjoy the record. LG x”
Liam has also released his performance of Sad Song on the MTV Unplugged album as a single, giving fans a teaser of what’s to come.
The acoustic show captures Liam’s electrifying presence, opening with his renowned track Wall of Glass.
Liam includes material from his solo career, featuring his personal favourite Once and joyous track Now That I Found You – incorporating stand out vocals alongside harmonious backing singers and string arrangements performed by the 24-piece Urban Soul Orchestra.
His performance of Gone is particularly admirable, with the lack of supposed studio advantage creating an evocative cinematic atmosphere.
Oasis guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs also appears on the live album, performing in tracks Some Might Say, Stand By Me, Cast No Shadow and Liam’s first ever live vocal performance of the Definitely Maybe bonus track Sad Song.
The show is rounded up with a crowd-pleasing track; an emotionally radiant performance of the classic Champagne Supernova.
Gallagher and Oasis fans will be pleased to see a tracklist that combines Oasis classics with some of his new material, though the omission of Live Forever will raise eyebrows – it has been a staple in his sets over the past few years.
The inclusion of Slide Away would have been well-received, too, as Some Might Say stands out as the only one of the more strenuous of Oasis tracks to feature. Perhaps we are in for a reworking, à la their Paris recording of Up In The Sky.
Be Here Now would have been another wildcard, and I Hope, I Think, I Know from the same album a much appreciated inclusion.
But there’s little to complain about with a 50/50 split between his songs and Oasis numbers.
The release of the album will be celebrated with a very special Tim’s Twitter Listening Party on Friday, 12 June.
Gallagher will join Bonehead on Twitter discussing the album, giving fans a unique insight into the making of the record.
