Pavement’s  Wowee Zowee album hits a quarter of a century, GetintothisWill Neville has the full lowdown as Matador are to reissue a special commemorative disc.

Matador Records have announced a three-track shaped picture disc to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pavement’s third album.

The special release is cut to the shape of the speech bubble from the album cover, featuring tracks from the expanded CD version of the album from 2006, which are debuting on vinyl for the first time.

These are Sensitive Euro Man and Brink Of The Clouds / Candylad.

The former is a typically languid Pavement tune that was originally issued on the I Shot Andy Warhol soundtrack in 1996.

It has rather opaque lyrics, as is to be expected from Stephen Malkmus, including this highlight: “We’re so envious of your etiquette demands until we saw you lost in the dark without your bright ideals”

The other song was recorded live for JJJ Radio in Australia back in 1994, starting off with some extreme minor key guitar work before settling down. Perhaps not one of their career peaks.

Wowee Zowee was the follow-up to 1994’s Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, the best-selling album in their discography, but was a much more varied record, with the two singles released from it being Rattled By The Rush complete with one-take guitar solo, and the country-esque Father To A Sister Of Thought.
