After revealing last month that their new album Annual, Modern Nature share a video for new single Harvest, Getintothis’ Sian Ellis reports.
Modern Nature have revealed the video for Harvest.
It’s the second to be released by the band from their upcoming album, after the first music video for lead track Flourish went down a treat last month.
Itasca’s Kayla Cohen fills the position of lead vocalist on the track, with Bandleader Jack Cooper admitting: “the melody was above my range. I’d been playing the new Itasca record all the time and just reached out. The economy with which she sings is perfect”.
Harvest represents Autumn on the record, with a focus on rituals and superstitions. Cooper explains: “A lot of the words and ideas that became the bones of the song were written the days after a vivid experience in Lewes for Bonfire Night.”
Speaking on the music video for Harvest, Cooper adds: “Lockdown Britain forced us (my wife Tsouni and I) into making our directorial debut and this is the outcome. A moving snapshot of the year through the medium of everyday objects. The record moves from winter through the seasons and back to winter”.
Their upcoming mini-album Annual comes after the triumph of debut album How To Live, released August 2019. Despite the success of How To Live, Jack Cooper admitted: “It feels like there’s scope and room to grow”.

Modern Nature, who performed at Liverpool’s Shipping Forecast last year, will release new album Annual via Bella Union. Set to be released on 5th June 2020, and recorded in December 2019, the album is a step towards something more liberated, offering music fans a different kind of sound to that of Jack Cooper’ previous bands.
When talking on the inspiration behind the Annual album, Cooper explains: “Towards the end of 2018, I began filling a new diary with words, observations from walks, descriptions of events, thoughts…free associative streams of just… stuff…I split the diary into four seasons and used them as the template for the four main songs. The shorter instrumental songs on the record are meant to signify specific events and transitions from one season to the next.”
Modern Nature’s Annual is a companion piece to the band’s debut How To Live, but also a pointer to the paths ahead.
Annual tracklist:
1. Dawn
2. Flourish
3. Mayday
4. Halo
5. Harvest
6. Ritual
7. Wynter
The future looks bright for Modern Nature, with Cooper already working on the next album – his enthusiasm for release both promising and exciting.
