At the end of another week, here’s Getintothis’ Max Richardson with the roundup of the top stories and gig news.
Here we are once again, it’s time for the introduction to the Getintothis Top Five.
This week, much of the time of this writer has been spent reconnecting with old favourites that have been neglected for a few months, or even years.
From Neil Young’s Harvest to Radiohead’s Kid A, there’s so many albums out there that demand to be listened to in full – and it’s now the perfect opportunity to reconnect with old classics that have perhaps fallen out of favour.
One record that’s been played relentlessly in this writer’s household this week is Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On, and what a record that is.
It seems to gain a little depth with every listen, with subtle instrumental nuances and new production elements being unveiled with each spin.
After a few months since its last spin, it’s really great to be able to listen with fresher ears, and rediscover what it is that makes most listeners fall in love with it upon its first listen.
Public Enemy Fear of a Black Planet at 30: They were operating in was an openly hostile arena
Another record that’s been given attention this week is The Who’s Quadrophenia, the legendary 1973 concept album focusing on mod culture.
Tracks such as 5.15 and Sea and Sand stand up amazingly well even now, with the record brimming with The Who’s uniquely chaotic energy.
Have you been listening to, or watching anything particularly interesting this week? We’d love to hear about it if so – please feel free to let us know in the comments.
