Elder statesmen of synth pop, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark are set to play two dates at the Royal Albert Hall in September and Getintothis’Jane Davies provides the details .
As part of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark‘s continuing series of special concerts to commemorate their 40th year anniversary, the Wirral band will be returning to the Royal Albert Hall for two special concerts on this September/
The band will be playing two sets a night, opening with atmospheric fan favourites such as Stanlow, Statues, and Ghost Star and a handful of rarities that commemorate their beginning 40 years ago, along with some rarely played tracks taken from their self titled debut album.
Following a short break the remainder of the night will be a greatest hits set, with selections taken from an impressive 13 album career, from the classic Enola Gay to highlights from Architecture and Morality and more recent hits Don’t Go and Isotype.
Originally scheduled for just one show, the electro hit makers added a second show due to the demand for tickets.
OMD have sold an astonishing 25 million singles and 15 million albums, which has established them as electronic synthesiser pioneers and one of Britain’s best-loved pop groups.
This announcement follows on from OMD’s 40th anniversary celebrations which included the release of the momentous Souvenir anniversary box-set and greatest hits collection.

OMD will also be playing two live dates in Wirral, where they headline a special gig on 9 May 2020 in conjunction with Future Yard in Birkenhead and will also headline the Wirral Food, Drink and Music Festival in Birkenhead Park on Sunday 6 September 2020.
