A Leigh band are undergoing a name change following being threatened with legal action by a London band who share their name, Getintothis’ Lewis Ridley reports.
Leigh band Saults have today been forced to change their name following contact from the management of a French pop band, also named Saults.
The news was posted on the band’s Twitter, who began their statement with: “It’s amazing we have to write this.”
The band followed that with an explanation that they’d been contacted by the management of the other Saults, who demanded them to change their name.
It’s thought that London’s Saults trademarked the title “a couple of days ago” and the Leigh band were no longer able to use it.
“This is everything we stand against, everything that’s wrong with the music industry,” said the band, who are preparing to play at Northwich’s Salty Dog this Thursday before headlining Manchester’s Peer Hat.
“Bands co-exist all the time with the same name but clearly this isn’t going to work.”

Many fans were supportive in sharing the statement this afternoon, suggesting that names such as “Saultz” and “S a u l t s” may work, but some users were less understanding.
“Might start a sportswear company called Adidas and see my arse when they sue the living shite out of me,” said one user in reply.
