Jade Hairpins, featuring members of Fucked Up, and Londoners Nation Unrest reveal Liverpool gig, Getintothis’ Peter Guy makes a date for February 14.
What to do with your loved one on Valentine’s Day?
Stay in and eat a shite takeaway? Go the cinema and watch an Academy Award nominated war film? Go for a wet weekend in the Lake District?
Nope, all of these are predictable – and frankly more depressing than watching a double-header of Requiem For A Dream and 120 Days of Sodom. Just remember you did that last year.
You need something new in your sad, predictable lives. You need to get out more. Get some fresh February air.
Bask in the darkness of a dimly-lit shed with no heating being battered by unremitting noise and the taste of crisp cold lager. Hmmm, this is exactly what you need to do.
It’s a new decade. Time to shake things up. Time to resurrect that ‘do you remember the first time‘ feeling. When you met in a Wetherspoons and kindly offered to get the first round in.
Yes, those were the days. And now you can do it all over again. In a dark room with industrial sonic shock therapy dressed up as entertainment for foreplay.
Romance is alive – and it’s happening at Liverpool’s Stockroom – a wondrous wooden cavern situated in the Kazimier Garden on Seel Street.
And on Friday February 14 (the Feast of Saint Valentine) we’re serving up a double-headed sensual session of pleasure for the soul.
Fucked Up are a band with a long back story in Liverpool – they’ve thrilled at the Kazimier, made a mess down the docklands for Sound City and also blitzed the proverbial shit out of EBGBs.
And now we can welcome back two of their band members: guitarist Mike Haliechuk and drummer Jonah Falco, who together with Tamsin Leach (of Es) and Jack Goldstein (Fixers) are Jade Hairpins.
A fusion of taut death disco and industrial grooves – imagine David Byrne, James Murphy and (defo) Peter Hook jamming long into the night and you’re not far away.
Revisiting LCD Soundsystem’s best work – plus a top 10 greatest tracks
They’re signed to Merge, and together with London mates Nation Unrest (dissonant propulsive industrial techno) will be gracing our city with their debut live shows.
If you need further convincing, skip this convoluted prose and listen to the tracks below.
We’re positively gushing in anticipation.
So make a date for Friday February 14 at the Kazimier Stockroom: Jade Hairpins, Nation Unrest – live, £5 tickets. Stay up to date on the event page.
- UPDATE: Claire Welles has been added to the glorious bill.
