A new free monthly night of music and entertainment comes to District in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, Simon Kirk looks ahead to the first Getintothis Social.
Yes, we have a special announcement.
We are launching a new night, The Getintothis Social, which will be held every third Thursday at District in the heart of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle.
Our inaugural event is on Thursday, February 20 and features new music, poetry, a quiz plus lots more besides – and we’ve let to tell you best bit – it’s FREE.
Getintothis has always prided itself on championing new music and brand new artistic talent from around Merseyside and the North West.
While the night will certainly contain this element, the primary focus of The Getintothis Social will be more on the light-hearted fun side of things and along with performing artists, the night will include a quiz and DJs, spoken word and poetry.
The Getintothis Social will be a night for a good laugh, so get your mates down to District for a night that intends not to take itself too seriously.
Our inaugural event will see live music courtesy of Motel Sundown, Douglas Savage plus spoken word on the night will be provided by our own contributor and Wrapped Up In Books columnist, Cath Holland.
Finishing up the night will be our resident house band, Coffee Shop John and the Silver Spoons who will play a selection of originals and covers alongside a range of artists for a special one off.
Merseyside music’s best new acts of 2020 – Getintothis’ new breed of the ones to watch
Motel Sundown are no strangers to us here at Getintothis HQ.
Having played Phase One in December to launch their debut single, Chicago, their breezy hybrid of Americana goes down very well indeed and is a refreshing representation of Americana folk rock here in Liverpool.
With Chicago featuring in our December Deep Cuts column, Getintothis‘ New Music Editor Lewis Ridley went on to say that Chicago “emits that live energy beautifully, ebbing and flowing to a degree that moves us to a place away from frost and wind but instead to sunshine and parched fields.” Quite.
Joining Motel Sundown will be one of the finest up and coming talents in Liverpool. Yes, folks, we’re talking about the romantic raconteur that is Douglas Savage.
Where new music in Liverpool is concerned, Savage explores new terrains with his with aloof stage persona and bookish charm, parting with rich yarns not limited to romantic shit shows and fucking bees. Yes, you read right.
Having played our Deep Cuts Festival last summer, Savage is definitely going places with his unique charm and, along with Motel Sundown, we are made-up that the two acts are playing our first Getintothis Social. It will be the former’s first show of the new year.
A Getintothis lynchpin for many a year, Cath Holland will provide spoken-word on the night.
Focusing on feminism, politics and music, Cath‘s thinly-barbed diatribes have always stirred the collective conscious and expect more of that from her readings.
Closing the night will be our resident house band, Coffee Shop John and the Silver Spoons, known better to most as the venerable John Witherspoon.
John will be joined by a revolving cast of musicians on the night to bring up some original ditties of his as well as covers, bringing a curtain down on the night.
It’s set to be a great night with a variety of entertainment that caters for all, so like we say, bring a mate down to District and get your weekend started early by getting involved.
