Shakespears Sister made their live return after 25 years apart, Getintothis’ Peter Guy on a beautifully timed return.
Shakespears Sister are back. But we’re not allowed to review this one.
Perhaps they’re wary of expectation and anticipation. The girls shouldn’t be so worried.
For 90 minutes, Siobhan Fahey and Marcella Detroit do the business – it’s a characteristically fun, off kilter run through of boss goth pop.
The staging is dramatic, it’s full on post Halloween drama.
For what it’s worth Fahey is a whirlwind of exuberance, dance-floor jives and tongue in cheek humour, the yin to Detroit‘s yang who remains cool, calm and ultra composed throughout – her vocal remains a thing of beauty. She’s 67-years-old, and boy does she own this stage.
Our highlights are many, Black Sky, Goodbye Cruel World and You’re History – of course Stay gets the big standing ovation but there’s a good will feeling throughout.
It’s great to have them back, this crowd have waited some time, and it feels like the duo are as appreciative for one more dark waltz as the rest of us.
