Four more blossoming talents set to feature at Edge Hill University as Getintothis hosts the second Deep Cuts away day.
It’s always lovely to be invited back. And thankfully after our first Deep Cuts outing at Edge Hill University, we’ve been asked to host another – this time on Wednesday November 13.
There’s quite a burgeoning music community unfolding in West Lancashire – and it is in no small part due to Edge Hill University‘s encouragement with their arts and music strategy.
Being home to the Label Recordings – a cottage industry record label which has introduced us to the likes of Hooton Tennis Club, Ali Horn‘s solo project, Oranj Sun, Shrinking Minds, Podge and Charity Shop Pop – while there’s a umpteen other music projects waiting in the wings to burst through.
Away from the campus there’s artists such as Post Romantics, Hanover, Big Bambora, Tracky, Hammerhead Snails, Adam Craddock aka Silver Linings, Serpico and others all originating from the wilds of West Lancs.
And it’s two of three of these artists who form the basis for our second Deep Cuts instalment at the Arts Centre on Wednesday November 13.
Hammerhead Snails represent a fresh new outfit with swaggering, easy on the ear guitar-fuelled melodies. While hip-pop experimentalist Podge offers summery electronica for the soul.
Alongside them, comes Charity Shop Pop – a name readers to these pages and Edge Hill students need little introduction to. However, David Hughes‘ rise since we last saw him in March has been impressive.
Playlisted by Spotify and a succession of support dates in Liverpool have marked him out as one to watch – he’ll be headlining this Deep Cuts away day for his first top of the bill offering.
Our final act is our first from Liverpool to play the away day – Green Tangerines are a quintet fusing jazz, soul and funk into a heady brew of magik.
Sarah Sands (saxophone, vocals), Jack O’Hanlon (guitar, vocals), Sam Taylor (trumpet, vocals), Fran Mills (bass guitar, vocals) and Tom Hudson (drums) cite Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder and contemporary jazz legends Snarky Puppy as their influences and it’s all there to revel in with their enchanting mix of sonics.
Relive the first Deep Cuts at Edge Hill University featuring Tracky, Hanover and Big Bambora
And the best bit? Once again, Deep Cuts away day is FREE. Yup, four boss live bands in an inclusive space for nowt.
First time out was good, we expect this to be even better.
