National Museums Liverpool reveal record breaking year for visitors as Getintothis’ Lauren Wise reports.
Nearly four million visitors paid visits to museums and galleries across Liverpool this year, National Museums Liverpool has announced.
Releasing its annual review, the organisation revealed that it saw 3,965,453 visits made across eight museums and galleries.
The latest figures mark its highest ever visitor numbers following a similar story last year.
This year’s Annual Review also unveils Liverpool’s World Museum as England’s most visited museum outside of London.
Director, Laura Pye, said: “The Annual Review is a chance to share with the public what a fantastic year we’ve had and the important role we have within the cultural offer of the city and region.
“A vibrant programme of exhibitions and events – as well as our permanent collections – attracted people to our venues, including the blockbuster China’s First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors exhibition, which had a phenomenal impact on the Liverpool City Region.

“Our dedicated staff, trustees and volunteers also worked with partners on other key projects and activities and it was fantastic year for income generation and donations, which enables us to continue to build on our exhibitions and events programmes, while maintaining our permanent collections.”

Following the release of the 2018-19 Annual Review, Laura will host two public events, which will share highlights from the latest numbers.
The first of these will be held at Museum of Liverpool on Thursday, July 25 at 12.30pm, while the second will come to the World Museum on Wednesday, July 31 at 12.30pm.
