IDLES end a victorious 2019 with their biggest dates yet. Getintothis’ Steven Doherty is joyous at the mere thought.
After a glorious last 12 months, which have seen them release their Top 5 album Joy As An Act Of Resistance as well as already selling out one UK tour, IDLES have just announced five further dates in December.
These dates are the culmination to a full solid year of touring, which has seen them travel to Australia, Europe and the USA, as well as countless summer festival appearances.
The December dates see them headlining their biggest indoor venues yet in Glasgow, Manchester and Leeds, ending the album campaign in style with a massive date at London’s Alexandra Palace, selling out all 19,000 for the five nights, within a few hours.
Ahead of these dates in August, they will also release a 7-inch containing two tracks that were recorded for JAAAOR, but didn’t quite fit the album vibe, Mercedes Marxist (which is currently being played to death on 6 Music) and the not-yet-heard B-Side I Dream Guillotine.
Their life-changing sophomore album has seen them receive accolade after accolade, from a Brits nomination to winning both a Kerrang and Ivor Novello award and the album topping many of last years ‘Best Of’ lists.
Following these dates, the band will take a well-earned break from touring whilst they work on album number 3, which is due for release in 2020 and tracks from which are to be debuted at the winter shows.
The band were said to be toying with doing a tour of small venues, but wanted to make their send off as accessible as possible to their ever growing fan-base.
Speaking about the London date, frontman Joe Talbot said “This will be an opportunity for the community of fans which has built itself around us to join us in celebration with what has been an incredibly humbling turn of events.”
“We are adamant on pushing things forward and making this something special so that as many people can enjoy together for one magic night.”
No supports have been announced as yet, but the band have stated that for the London gig, the bands alongside promise to be “massive“.
