URF

Ahead of their appearance at Getintothis‘ Deeper Cuts Festival in July, URF tell us about first gigs, worst gigs and first memories.

URF take inspiration from the world around them, with their name coming from a car registration plate whilst singer Abbi jots down small details of interesting conversations she overhears when writing the lyrics.

Musically, their influences collectively include a large variety from Joni Mitchell, Suede, Slowdive, The Cure and Mogwai.  The Manchester based band are self confessed shoegazers.

URF have a new single, Solitude, out and will appear GetintothisDeeper Cuts festival at this year’s along with Teeth of the Sea, Gum Takes Tooth and Yammerer.

Before all this, we tracked URF down, sat them on a rickety chair and asked them 13 questions.

Foo Fighters at Earls Court. Couldn’t see anything but it I’m m guessing it was class.’

9. What is the worst gig you’ve ever done?
‘It’s a toss up between a festival in Birmingham where none of our equipment worked and we had to sit in the luggage racks of the train to get there or playing Factory in Manchester to about 4 people (including the sound guy and guy on the bar) two nights in a row.’

10. What’s your first memory?
‘My nan weeing in the kids pool on holiday. It changed colour cause it had that pool pee dye stuff in there so all the kids ran screaming.’

‘Fake Love – BTS lol.’

12. Vinyl, CD, MP3 or Streaming?
‘Vinyl. I do like to burn my money on vinyl but lazy me who’s sat in bed answering these questions cannot be arsed to get up and flip it from a to b… so I’m partial to a bit of streaming too.’

13. Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. Is there anything else you’d like to say?
‘Nothing apart from the fact that we’re playing at Deeper Cuts . If you’re reading this you’re obliged to come and celebrate the release of our new single with us. We love a bit of shameless self promotion.’
