Liverpool Sound City present a day-long conference down the M62 in Manchester this July as part of the city’s Distractions event, Getintothis’ Steven Doherty has the lowdown.
Fresh from taking the Sound City brand name around the world, from Dubai to Brooklyn via South Korea, Sound City are looking a bit nearer home for their next major event.
Sound City at Distractions is part of the Distractions 3-day spectacular taking place at various venues in Manchester from 18-20 July.
The event, describing itself as “Innovation, Revolution and the Future of Entertainment”, will see Sound City take over proceedings on Friday 19 July, with a conference that delves into the newest advances in music and technology, and explores how the two will combine.
Sound City explain more, “Tech is driving future entertainment. AR, VR, MR, 3D immersive technology, facial recognition in stadiums, ticketing and social media. All of this will make global entertainment bigger and more innovative than ever before.”
“The new talent of the future is as likely to be a digital designer as much as they are a DJ or performer, a fact that raises questions and invites opportunity.”

The day will deliver panels, in conversation sessions and a keynote from some of the world’s greatest tech companies and artist managers, discussing the issues and possibilities that tech brings.
Proceedings will end with a programme of new music, held in Festival Square, with an as-yet-unnamed line-up curated by an independent A & R panel made up from major music industry influencers.
