The Bohos
Having undergone a musical transformation, and with a new single on the way this week, Getintothis’ Lewis Ridley asked The Bohos 13 Questions.
A couple of years back, there was a four piece in Liverpool that slotted in as part of the city’s consistent indie guitar band scene. The Bohos released a fistful of tracks accordingly.
But when the band put their heads down 18 months ago, you wondered if the well had run dry. It was the exact oppposite, though, and fans were promised “a whole new Bohos” on their return.
Dave , their manager, wasn’t wrong. The band signed to Anvil Records last February, and emerged with new single Born Frustrated.
But it was their live performance that really matured. Something had been unleashed.
Now more of a beast than a band, The Bohos played at October’s Getintothis’ Deep Cuts at Phase One, and blew the roof off.
It’s a transformation personified by guitarist Elliot Gill, once a calm and collected side stage janglist, is now a rampaging firestarter who fights for terretory with frontman Fin Power, whilst he is likely using his mic stand as a machine gun.
And now they’re loaded again, with brand new single Stupid set for release this Friday (May 24). So, from the bunker, drummer Alex Smith answered 13 questions from Getintothis.
1. Where are you and what are you doing?
Watching the highlights of the Liverpool – Barca game…
2. How is that working out?
Good, watched it about ten times already.
3. What is your favourite film?
Rush
4. What was the first gig you went to?
Kylie Minogue, when I was five, she sang to me cause I had an asthma attack.
5. Recommend one band or album that you think we should check out.
Clinic – Wheeltappers and Shunters, belter album blew me head off.
6. What’s your first memory?
Rolling round on the floor and knocking over my dads cup of tea, can’t remember anything before that.
7. What is your favourite view?
The TV.
8. Tell us the most you’ve ever spent on a round of drinks.

9. What was the first record you bought with your own money?
System of a Down – Mezmerize, I must have been around 8 and was obsessed with heavy music. Bit moody for my age like haha
10. What is the last gig you went to?
Well we played Sound City so the second day of that, saw some good bands as well, was a good year this year.
11. What would be your final meal if you were on Death Row?
Steak, medium, peppercorn sauce and proper chips with apple crumble for afters.
12. What’s your guilty listening pleasure?
Them YouTube vids with the out of tune flute on, don’t know why. They’re, like, slightly addictive.
