BBC 6 Music Festival arrives in Liverpool in March, Getintothis’ Lewis Ridley gives the full programme of events ahead of the week long event.
The big news in Liverpool this week is that BBC 6 Music are moving into the city for a week of events in March, concluding with a three day festival across the city centre.
Announced live on air on Tuesday morning from The Bluecoat, Mary Anne Hobbs reveales that Merseyside would be descended on for the festival from Friday March 29 – Sunday March 31.
Names like The Good, the Bad, and the Queen, Anna Calvi, Bill Ryder Jones and IDLES have reverberated around the country, and Liverpool, being Liverpool, has taken it upon itself to spreadeagle across the back end of March with a full programme of live events.
Added to the lineup a week prior to the event is John Grant, who’ll play at Mountford Hall on the Friday. He performed at the first ever 6 Music Festival in Salford in 2014 and headlined the festival in Bristol in 2016.
The addition means that Marika Hackman will be moving to Eventim Olympia, joining Anna Calvi, Bodega and She Drew the Gun.
Before the festival proper has begun, the preliminaries will kick in with venues like The Jacaranda and the Cavern Club swinging into action, the latter hosting a special BBC Introducing showcase with Zuzu and Queen Zee amongst others.
At the other end of the soirée, Getintothis will join forces with Culture Liverpool and many more music organisations to close the festival with a curtain closer at Phase One. It’s a collaboration with Liverpool music’s movers and shakers, featuring Chester’s Peaness and Wrexham’s Kidsmoke along with Merseyside’s Seatbelts and RongoRongo, which will see the week finish is style.
Included in the fringe element of the festival is Baltic Triangle based festival Threshold, with the likes of Seafoam Green, Katie Mac and Mersey Wylie performing.
Tickets for the festival proper went on sale this week, but fringe events and the BBC Introducing evening in the Cavern Club are not included, but often free entry, if you can get in!
