Everyone’s fave 50s mutant pop tarts Trudy and the Romance have lots to rock n roll over, Getintothis’ Cath Holland fluffs up her petticoats in preparation.
Liverpool boys of sorts Trudy and the Romance today release a new single The Original Doo Wop Spacemen, with news of a debut album Sandman out on May 24.
The long player, recorded with producer David Pye (Wild Beasts), embraces all the goodness of Jonathan Richman, Louis Prima, Brian Wilson‘s wall of sound, film composers Henry Mancini and Bernard Herrmann, and the golden age of Disney.
“We directed this like a blockbuster, with characters and a story,” Trudy’s singer Olly explains.
“We worked with a pianist, 1940s Disney choir, county pedal steel guitar player, film score violinist and harpist. It’s heart-warming and gently creeps up on you. It’s not tugging but just kind-of-there; Alligator Rock’n’roll!”
To celebrate the album, the former GIT Award nominees take a long overdue trip to Austin, Texas for SXSW before heading back to the UK for a headline tour calling Liverpool’s Jacaranda Phase One on May 30.
With a sell out date at London’s Moth club, a Huw Stephen’s Maida Vale session and Artist of the Week recognition from Steve Lamacq under their belts, 2019 looks to be a killer year for the trio.
