Holy Holy
Holy Holy continue celebrating the music of David Bowie with a return to Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall.
Holy Holy are, somewhat sadly, the closest we can now come to seeing David Bowie live.
Put together by Woody Woodmansey (who played drums for Bowie during his breakthrough years) and Tony Visconti (producer of several classic Bowie albums), Holy Holy also feature pop’s busiest man Glen Gregory on vocals.
Following on from their 2017 tour, where they played Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust album in full, Holy Holy will be playing Aladdin Sane and The Man Who Sold The World albums in their entirety, alongside a selection of other Bowie classics.
In his latest interview with Getintothis, Glenn Gregory commented that “We’re doing The Man Who Sold the World and Aladdin Sane albums in full, in order. So there’s going to be a lot of songs to get through. But these are songs I grew up with, from my early days when I would go and see Bolan and Bowie live, so being on stage singing those songs with those people is a real honour.
“And it’s a real band, there isn’t a laptop in sight and none of the music is on tape. It’s a real rock band and they play loud! Woody pounds his drums, I can feel the air moving when he hits them.”

One of the striking things about the Aladdin Sane album is the way that it constantly finds new fans as new generations are tuning in to Bowie’s genius. It is this that makes the audience at Holy Holy shows such a cross generational delight, as all types and ages come to hear such classic songs played live by musicians who were there when the albums were recorded.
Holy Holy do a great job of capturing the spirit and feel of Bowie’s songs and Gregory wisely has chosen not to try to imitate Bowie, but to perform as himself and to bring his own presence to the songs.
Holy Holy are no tribute to Bowie, rather they are a celebration of his work.
