Syrian electronic cult-hero, Omar Souleyman, is coming to town, Getintothis’ Simon Kirk has the details on his rearranged show.
24 Kitchen Street continues to reel in international talent for their ever evolving live program – this time in way of Syrian cult-hero, Omar Souleyman, who is set to play the venue on February 2.
After the recent show with SOPHIE, not to mention forthcoming appearances from Yves Tumor, Helena Hauff and Gaika, Souleyman‘s recent announcement is yet another coup for 24 Kitchen Street who are fast becoming the bastion for progression electronic music in the north west.
Having emerged from humble beginnings in the early ‘90s, Souleyman’s Middle Eastern representation of anthemic electronica has swept across the region, making him a household name.
With hundreds of live albums recorded at Syrian weddings, Souleyman’s first studio album, Wenu Wenu was released in 2013 to much adoration with his live shows garnering equal acclaim, notably for their infectious energy.
Since Wenu Wenu, two studio albums have followed, 2015’s Bahdeni Nami and 2017’s To Syria, with Love.
Support on the night will come from UpitUp records founder, Jacques Malchance, and SisBis resident, Giovanna.
UPDATE: This show has been postponed to the new date of Saturday February 23.
A statement said: “For reasons beyond our control, this show has been postponed till Saturday 23rd Feb. All tickets remain valid. If you can no longer attend, please contact the ticket vendor for a refund.”
