With club shows aplenty, Liverpool is primed for another huge week of gigs and Getintothis’ Simon Kirk has all the details.
By recent standards, last week was a little quieter on the gig front. We’ll put the blame squarely at the feet of Halloween for that.
This week it’s full steam ahead and looking at the live schedule, it may just been one of the busiest of the year. The question is, what’s not going on? There’s something for everyone this week. Tranquil acoustic journeys, raw electric fuzz, pummelling beats, anthemic ska, nostalgic baggy. And, of course, George Ezra…
So don’t treat this week like you sometimes treat your music playlist. You know, when there’s too much to choose from so you just bin it all off and go and watch East Enders! That’s not the train to board here. Choose wisely and commit to your choice, people.

Aidan Moffat & RM Hubbert: Leaf, Monday November 5
Start your week off with former Arab Strap miserablist, Aidan Moffat. He arrives on Merseyside in support of his debut collaboration with RM Hubbert, Here Lies the Body.
The Leaf will be the perfect venue for Moffat’s acerbic folk diatribes. Coupled with the weather, this gig’s a match made in heaven and a great way to start the week.
Zuzu
ZUZU: Jacaranda Records Phase One, Tuesday November 6
Local singer-songwriter ZUZU will be shaking the frost at Jacaranda Records Phase One to promote her new single, Can’t Be Alone, which is released this Friday.
Having already released her debut EP, Made On Earth By Humans, earlier this year, it’s full steam ahead for the Liverpool wordsmith with another EP said to be due in the coming months.
Hothouse Flowers
Hothouse Flowers: O2 Academy, Wednesday November 7
After their appearance at Liverpool Feis earlier this year, Irish alt-folksters, Hothouse Flowers, are back for their own show.
While their latest album, Let’s Do This Thing, was released back in 2016, there may be more new material on the horizon for Ireland’s favourite sons. In the meantime, though, there will be classics aplenty.

DUDS: The Shipping Forecast, Wednesday November 7
Much hyped Manchester quarter, DUDS, are at The Shipping Forecast to give the locals a midweek dose of wiry post-punk.
Having released their debut album, Of A Nature or Degree, on John Dywer‘s label, Castle Face Records, anything loosely associated with Oh Sees is sure to attract attention from the Dwyer adherents and with that in mind, get your tickets fast.

Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Maxim are back with newbie, No Tourists, hot off the pressing plant from last week. The comfort of your own home isn’t a place to indulge The Prodigy, so get gritty, get sweaty, and get yourself down to the Echo Arena.
Those planning to attend this, we strongly urge you to get in early for the support – the venerable Ho99o9 who will provide the perfect foil for this impending carnage.

For those who don’t like their arena rave, there’s always a viable alternative here in Liverpool. This one comes in the way of our monthly Deep Cuts event at Jacaranda Phase One.
Ace venue, friendly people and an eclectic array of bands which include Organ Freeman, Loka, Ana Mae, Pharoahe Rocher, Bobhowla and The Indica Gallery. What more could you want? Drop in for a Phase One Pilsner, say hello and enjoy an evening with some up-and-coming local artists.

Those who survived the brain frying courtesy of The Prodigy will salivate at this double-header of sorts. Shaun Ryder is in town to close this party as Shaun Ryder’s Black Grape. Where Ryder is concerned, it’s all been said, hasn’t it?
You’ve got all week to sink into a nostalgic trip of the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and various other dust-ridden CDs that emit all things baggy. Once Friday night hits, just remember, don’t lift the roof off the O2 Academy. Please.
Here Lies Man
Here Lies Man: Shipping Forecast: Friday November 9
Los Angeles band Here Lies Man make their Liverpool debut as part of a UK tour in support of their new album.
You Will Know Nothing is the follow up to their eponymous debut that burst onto the scene in 2017, now they’ll bring both records to Liverpool courtesy of Harvest Sun.
Expect an exploration of heavy riff-based rock and psych within their distinctive emphasis on afrobeat and cosmic rhythms.
Brix Smith
Brix & The Extricated: Arts Club, Loft, Sunday November 11
Former members of the national treasure and no-wave racket that was The Fall, Brix Smith Start and Steve Hanley are in town as Brix & The Extricated.
The band’s second album, Breaking State, was released last week and will no doubt be road tested. Fall heads may want to pop along in hope that homage is paid to the late Mark E. Smith in the way of a few Fall favourites. Some The Frenz Experiment cuts, anybody…?
