Winter is here, but so are the gigs, and Getintothis’ Simon Kirk has the low down with this week’s happenings around the place.
We’d say it’s nice once you’ve acclimatised to it, but in truth that’s just nonsense. Make no bones about it, winter has arrived.
In saying that, it hasn’t deterred us from getting out and about. Did you read about Seasick Steve? What about Mogwai and the fact that our ears are still trickling with blood from their beautiful clamour?
Last week was good and this week doesn’t suggest that there will be any let-ups. There’s little spit fires of noise forming around your local haunts and, like most weeks, there’s something for everyone’s taste.
With all that money you saved in the Black Friday sale bonanza, surely there’s a few pennies rattling around in the jar to spare for a gig this week?

LUNA 5am Single Launch with Stealing Sheep: 24 Kitchen Street, Tuesday November 27
Local electro-pop singer-songwriter, LUNA, is playing 24 Kitchen Street to celebrate the release of her new single, 5AM.
With support coming from the brilliant Stealing Sheep and electronic/RnB songstress Remée, this is sure to be the midweek gig where you get the bang for your buck.
Christine and the Queens
Christine and the Queens: O2 Apollo, Manchester, Wednesday November 28
Héloïse Letissier, aka Christine and the Queens, plays the Manchester Apollo in celebration of her second album, Chris.
Acclaimed and the producer of one of the finest pop albums in modern times, this is sure to be a magical night for all involved.

Courteeners: Echo Arena, Friday November 30
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their gold selling debut album, St. Jude, Courteeners will be dragging punters into the weekend with their appearance at the Echo Arena.
This one’s sure to win love-in of the week and with support coming from Gerry Cinnamon and Zuzu, it’s a nice way to kick off the weekend.
Clean Cut Kid
Clean Cut Kid: Arts Club, Friday November 30
To culminate their Give Love Tour, local favourites, Clean Cut Kid, are playing at Arts Club in anticipation of their follow up LP to last year’s Felt.
Having recently played Glasgow, Leeds and London, this show will a storming homecoming to round the year off for the band.

Those lovable Geordies, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, are in town to lift the fur off their audience in the Shipping Forecast.
Some like to drink rum or whiskey to keep warm. Others like to smoke incessantly. Here’s an alternative. Just listen to Pigs X 7 and their excellent new LP, King of Cowards. This will be loud, sweaty and just generally fucking awesome. Support comes from Mesange.
Boy Azooga
Boy Azooga presents Late Night Christmas Kung Fu: District, Saturday, December 1
Winner of the Welsh Music Prize along with their new album, 1, 2, Kung Fu!, being in Rough Trade’s Top 100 Albums of the Year, it’s been some year for Boy Azooga.
They are bringing their Late Night Christmas Kung-Fu show to District, which is sure to draw a raucous crowd. Support comes from The Howl & The Hum, Man of Moon and Chupa Cabra.
Alabama 3
Alabama 3: O2 Academy, Saturday, December 1
Acid house blues rockers, Alabama 3, return in what is beginning to feel like a pilgrimage of sorts. We don’t mind!
Rarely a bad night is had in this band’s company and this one is sure to be no different. Arguably the place to be this Saturday night.

Chamber-pop master, Ed Harcourt, is making his way up the M6 to the warm the hearts of the locals on a likely cold Sunday night.
While he has been keeping himself busy these past couple of years, lending a hand as a touring member to the Afghan Whigs, Harcourt is in town in support of his new album, Beyond the End.
