Liverpool Pier Head during this year’s Feis – where the White Album at 50 is due to take place
Management confirm various musicians listed as playing at the The White Album at 50 gig at Liverpool’s Pier Head were never set to play as gig is rescheduled.
Liverpool’s Pier Head gig The White Album at 50 has been thrown into controversy after management of various artists listed as playing has stated they were never involved.
The £53 per ticket event, which pays tribute to The Beatles‘ seminal record The White Album was listed as “the jewel in the crown of this year’s live music programme,” at Liverpool’s Pier Head village.
It is due to take place on Saturday September 8 with tickets ranging from £53 to £118.80 and profits going to Teenage Cancer Trust. However, ticket holders have now been informed it will move to December at a new location.
Among the 18 artists and bands set to perform tracks from the White Album were Marc Almond, Glen Matlock, M People‘s Heather Small and Hugh Cornwell of The Stranglers.

However, following a piece published by Getintothis yesterday, management of all four artists has posted a statement on social media saying: “Marc Almond, Glen Matlock, Heather Small and Hugh Cornwell are not involved and they should not be using their names, they are not appearing. I’d take legal action but it’s probably going to fall apart at the seems (sic).”
The statement follows correspondence to Getintothis from Liverpool City Council press office and Culture Liverpool insisting the event is not endorsed by them despite branding, posters and logos carrying their stamp of approval.
We contacted GIT Award 2016 One to Watch winner Zuzu, who was also listed as playing at the event and she confirmed to us that she was also not performing at the event.
Zuzu‘s manager, Lyndsey Boggis, said: “Zuzu isnt playing this show – as she was booked for a festival with the Libertines in Margate. She was approached but then…told it was being cancelled.”
The event has now been deleted from all City Council websites.
Organiser, Martin O’Shea, said: “The event formed the finale of the Pier Head Village but is moving to December indoors with additional lineup being announced shortly and many of the original acts not able to appear. All ticket holders have been notified and have been offered best seats at the re-arranged date.
“All acts announced were confirmed to appear on the original event subject to contract and the Pier Head Village and all its content was officially endorsed by Joe Anderson and supported by the Culture team as per the press release issued at the time. The only difference this year was that the Village had to secure its own license where in previous years it used the council’s. This change of policy applies to all musical events taking place in the city.
“I look forward to reading your (Getintothis) review after the show happens – given the last show I did of this size was the Number One Project – the very first concert at the Echo Arena and still quoted by many people as one of the best shows they’ve ever seen – I’m confident we’ll deliver a wonderful tribute to my favourite Beatles album.”
