Jacaranda Records Phase One hosts the latest Deep Cuts, Getintothis looks forward to a September special.

We’re starting this month’s Deep Cuts live edition with a thank you.

Thanks to everyone who made our housewarming such a bloody good one. The staff and team at Jacaranda Records Phase One made us feel hugely welcome – and we’ll be returning there on Thursday September 13 with another cracker (more below).

Thanks to The Gear, Shards, Purple Heart Parade, Feral Wheel, Tracky and a.P.A.t.T. for magical sets, John King who manned the sound desk expertly, Thomas Sumner for his consistently ace artwork, Lewis and Eden on door duties, Amy on film duties – and especially to the hundreds who turned up and made it a packed house throughout. We were seriously made up.

So, on the next one. And we’re back at Jac Phase One on Thursday September 13 with as diverse a bill Liverpool will see in 2018.

Making her long awaited return to the stage – and the Getintothis party – is Miss Stylie. Nominated back in 2012 for the inaugural GIT Award; Toxteth MC Jade Jackson mixes grime, hip hop, swaggering beats and a live spectacle ferocity is something else.

This time round she’s just one of the heavy-hitting MC’s that Merseyside-based record label and mini empire Big Condo Records is bringing to our Deep Cuts night. Alongside her are rising MCs Tofi, Smilez and veteran label boss Royzy Rothschild.

Relative newcomer compared to Miss Stylie, Pixey makes her return to the stage after a nine month absence – and with her comes a set of new tracks from her forthcoming EP.

Having made Radio One and national press with her first brace of tracks, Pixey played our first Deep Cuts new music column back in November 2016 and subsequently went on to play at Sound City, sign for Modern Sky Records and feature at Liverpool Music Week in 2017. After a short break recording, she’s back at Deep Cuts in September.

Also joining the bill are two of Merseyside’s most talked about new bands – Hannah and the Wick Effect and Monks. Citing Yo La Tengo and Richard Hawley as influences, Hannah Brown heads up her Wick Effect collective with their brand of self-proclaimed ‘Spiky riot girl, meets Veruca Salt, beats Joan of Arc while eating fig rolls…‘ Sounds delicious.

Monks, meanwhile, offer effusive textured psychedelia with brass balancing their guitar-laced rhythmic pop. Alongside the likes of Shards, SPILT, Bill Nickson and their contemporaries, Monks are one of Liverpool’s most talked about bands. Catch them while they’re fresh out the blocks.

Completing the bill are Dots. The Burnley collective offer frenetic, raw post-punk. Having become part of the Mainline Records family they’ve joined a roster including Canada’s Dishpit, so expect something brash, in your face and a live proposition to be reckoned with.
