The Snuts
The Snuts tell Getintothis about playing live, writing relatable songs and, erm, listening to Bruno Mars.
The Snuts seem to have taken a mixture of old fashioned and decidedly modern approaches to finding success.
On the one hand they are relying on word of mouth hype to get their name across, and on the other they have used Spotify to aim for a wider audience. In fact, they have racked up over a million streams of their early demos. An impressive feat by anybody’s standards, bet even more so when it has been achieved without major support from the mainstream media.
Hailing from West Lothian, the four piece have drawn comparisons with such luminaries as Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys, The Snuts are already selling out venues in their native Scotland and this has even transferred into other cities, such as Manchester.
With their first single Seasons released last June, The Snuts have hit the road and their latest jaunt finds them at Liverpool’s Shipping Forecast on 11 October. Fans of sure fire indie anthems are strongly advised to check them out.
Before all of this however, Getintothis decided to subject the band to one of our 13 Questions pieces, although for some reason they only got to 12. That’s the rock star life for you I’d imagine!
1. Where are you and what are you doing?
On the train on route to the studio to finish off last nights vocals!
2. How is that working out?
Pretty well, the producer we’ve been working with this year, Dave McCracken absolutely bleeds music. Heʼs a real sucker for the vibe of a song and knows exactly how to make sure every lyric is coming across crisp and true.
3. What inspires you to make music?
Probably the people closest to me the most. Writing songs has always been a way to drop that stiff upper lip even just for five minutes. We’ve always been focussed on making music that ordinary people can relate to in any way they see fit.
4. Biggest influence?
Our influences are so scattered across the board itʼs hard to narrow it down sometimes. Growing up we were obsessed with The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys etc. Iʼd say it was that wave of true indie rock and roll that made us want to be in band. We all listen to so many different genres of music i think its hard to pick out where we draw an influence with musically.
5. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a round of drinks?
No idea to be honest!
6. Which do you prefer, playing live or being in a recording studio?
Live every single time. That’s the single most important thing to us, how a band sounds live is so important to us. Being in the right studio with the right people is magic too just a completely different animal.

7. What was the first record you bought with your own money?
I like to think it was Red Hot Chili Peppers Stadium Arcadium but in reality it would have been something ridiculous.
8. What was the first gig you went to?
My old man took me and Callum to Razorlight in Edinburgh, armed with skinny jeans and daft haircuts. It was magic man.
9. What is the worst gig you’ve ever done?
Back in the day me and Joe turned up like 3 hours late to play a girl we knows first dance at her wedding, that was pretty shit.
10. What’s your first memory?
Of what? Being alive?
11. Whatʼs your guilty listening pleasure?
Caught myself singing along to wee Bruno Mars a few times if am being completely honest..
12. Vinyl, CD, MP3 or Streaming?
Even though its not the greatest platform for artists etc I think for listeners, streaming is incredible. Having that kind of access to that volume of music is an absolute blessing in my opinion. Being able to discover new bands and artists without having to be part of a scene or be looking too hard is a great thing to me.
